Abbott A. Brayton's first novel is set in Scotland's Western Highlands during the early stages of World War II as the Home Guard and Civil Defense organizations are being formed in Britain. Colonel David McKenna, a retired officer of the Black Watch, is recalled to active service. He receives a posting to Northwest Scotland to establish a system of defense. We follow him as he develops plans for securing the Highlands from German invasion, builds his team, and empowers the citizenry to preparedness. Along the way he finds love and war.
