In Spirit and Truth: A Study of Christian Worship
Jesus said "God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." (John 4:24)
We are shaped by the habits we keep, and Christ uses the acts of worship to shape our faith. Yet so often we go through the motions of worship and never think about their deeper meaning. Let God breathe new life into your worship experience by exploring these six simple acts of worship:
* lighting candles;
* praying together;
* passing the peace;
* celebrating the Lord's Supper;
* passing the offering plate, and
* saying "Amen."
Each session you will learn the history of these rituals and discover their spiritual meaning that will enrich your discipleship. It is the simple things we take for granted - lighting a candle, shaking hands, eating bread - that become a means of grace when we learn their significance for our lives.
The North Church study guides are ideal for both individual and small-group use, and as companion guides to sermon series. Each study guide includes background information and questions for personal reflection and small-group discussions. And all of the studies have been "road tested" with a real congregation - North United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.
