Back in 1973 Randall and Shirley are college students who date, have some fun, but end what is a nice relationship after a year. She gets pregnant, but doesn't tell him about their inter-racial baby girl. She gives her up for adoption and goes on about the business of her life. Forty-three years later the father and daughter cross paths and are genetically signaled that a relative is near. They connect, and reach out to the mother who is distant from this aspect of her past life. Secondly, the book high lights the lives and stories of two women who are challenged by difficult personal choices of another kind.
