El Colegio Smma. Trinidad de Baeza fue ratificado como Universidad en 1542, siendo patrono S. Juan de Ávila. Gozaba de un espléndido patrimonio bibliográfico, casi 2.000 volúmenes de ?las esquelas de Baeça? en 1815, enriquecido con los fondos de los colegios jesuitas, los de S. Buenaventura y del Colegio de los Carmelitas, entre otros, incautados por el Estado.Además de los propios alumnos, se formaron en Artes y Teología los futuros sacerdotes de la diócesis, hasta la apertura del Seminario Conciliar en 1668. Disfrutaba el Seminario de 5.139 volúmenes en su biblioteca. El Plan General de Estudios, en 1824, extinguió la Universidad. Los fondos bibliográficos los recibió el Seminario, albergando unos 9.000 volúmenes.El año 1921 fue trasladado el Seminario Mayor a Jaén, quedando el edificio de Baeza como Seminario Menor, hasta ser clausurado en 1969. La biblioteca quedó dividida en dos: la parte baezana fue trasladada a la Catedral. Hoy quedan unos 4.000 ejemplares descritos en el actual catálogo.The Smma.
