She and her cousin summoned the ghost of a woman who had been so brutally murdered that she was unable to move onto the afterlife. They thought it was a joke. After all, it wasn't like the ghost jumped out of the mirror to claim her revenge after they said her name three times. Recurring nightmares and the occasional sighting of a woman bleeding out don't mean anything. Right? That is until the ghost reappears and is ready to stake her claim on Henrietta.

This story came from a conversation about the Bloody Mary, Candyman, Jason, and the other villains that follow the "they were so wronged in life, they are forced to exact revenge" trope. We ended up in violent agreement that no matter how much the villain was wronged in life, they are still just killing some innocent person. We agreed even thought Bloody Mary had been horribly wronged in life, taking it out on someone who summoned her was still kind of a d*** move. So when developing our version of Bloody Mary, we were like "what if she's just a bad person?" Killing some innocent person isn't really revenge, it's just spreading the misery. And since this conversation happened while one of us was driving, it seemed like a great setting for a Bloody Mary story.
