Theodore Arnold Haultain (1857?1941) was a British writer
with a notably wide scope of work, including a romantic handbook dedicated to
his daughter, a historical analysis of the 19th-century Canadian revolt, and
even a reflection on the philosophy of walking tours. The son of a Major
General in the British Army, Haultain was educated in London before moving to
Canada, where he spent many years as secretary to the academic and historian
Goldwin Smith. After Smith's death, Haultain wrote his memoir and served as his
literary executor.
