Ellis Hein first encountered the writings of George Fox (1624-1691) and early Quakers in 1969 as a freshman at Friends University, Wichita, KS, where he read the Journal of George Fox and Barclay's Apology. He recognized at once that here was good news (Gospel) that was not part of Evangelical Quakers he had grown up in. Throughout his university career and when he returned to the farm in Oklahoma, Ellis worked to convince others of the message preached by Fox. In 1983 Ellis attended his first gathering of the New Foundation Fellowship, held at Pendle Hill, Wallingford, PA. The New Foundation Fellowship is a group of people called by God to reproclaim the gospel preached by George Fox and early Friends. During worship, he found himself on his feet recounting the story of Ezekiel and the valley of dry bones. "The hand of the Lord was upon me, and carried me out...and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones...And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live?" (See Ezekiel 37:1-14) Ellis likened the early Friends (Quakers) to these bones. Here were all these stories and testimonies of the work of the Lord wrought within that generation. But now they were like these dry, lifeless bones. "Can these bones live?" Ellis asked. He received the answer from the Lord, "Not their bones; yours must live today." Ellis Has been active in the New Foundation Fellowship ever since.Ellis has been interested in the book of John for as long as he can remember. Many of the key aspects of the early Quaker message are explicitly stated in John. He sees this work on John as an integral part of proclaiming the gospel preached by Fox and early Friends.Ellis lives with his wife, Rebecca, at the foot of Casper Mountain outside of Casper, Wyoming. He spends his time working to promote the gospel preached by George Fox and early Quakers, gardening, and banding birds.
