"Jake" Madden (11 June 1865-17 April 1948) was a Scottish footballer who
played for Celtic and the Scotland national team. He was capped twice by
Scotland in 1893 and in 1895, both against Wales. He scored four times
in an 8-0 win over Wales in March 1893. He played for Gainsborough
Trinity, Celtic and Scotland. John Madden was the first man to ever lead
a Celtic forward line. He used to be a riveter in the Glasgow shipyards.
An accomplished player, the Dumbarton centre-forward was keenly pursued
by Celtic officials who were eager to have this fine attacker in their
lineup.
