Ilija Trojanow, born in Sofia in 1965, fled to Germany with his family in 1971 and subsequently lived in Kenya for many years. After studying law and ethnology in Munich, he founded two publishing houses. He later moved to Mumbai and Cape Town; he now lives in Vienna. Trojanow became known for novels such as "Der Weltensammler and "Macht und Widerstand", as well as for his travel reports. His works have won numerous awards; his most recent publications are "Das Buch der Macht" (Die Andere Bibliothek) and "Ein Glas voller Zeit" (Residenz).
