Shane Gorman is an oil industry safety professional whose work is shaped not only by his experience in the field, but by a deeply personal connection to one of the industry's darkest moments.In 1988, Shane's father was among the 167 men who lost their lives in the Piper Alpha disaster, shaping both his perspective on the oil and gas industry and his understanding of the human consequences when safety failures occur. Shane has also contributed to raising awareness of Piper Alpha and its legacy, including appearing in the BBC documentary Disaster at Sea: The Piper Alpha Story. He believes it is vital the disaster is not viewed merely as a historical event, but recognised as an ongoing lesson for the industry.Today, Shane combines his professional experience with his personal story through his writing and public speaking. His aim is to help ensure the lessons of the past are not forgotten and to encourage safer, more accountable practices for the future.He lives in Edinburgh with his sons, Rudi and James and when he's not mountain biking or in the gym, he's eating out too much and gigging with his band.
