In the quiet town of Bekkensfeld, a chilling secret awakens.

Life in Bekkensfeld is idyllic. There's routine and friendships, and families that trace their heritage back for generations. All overseen by Godric, the town clerk and servant to The Master.

Yet the Master has not been seen in more than a dozen years and the arrival of Mary Rose as his nursemaid begins his rebirth. Soon he walks amongst his people, rejuvenated and with a bearing half his many years. How can this be - and how can the townsfolk accept it as normal?

When the young start dying of old age, rumours swirl and accusations made. The work of demons is unearthed, and Godric is plunged into the heart of a nightmare of terror unleashed by the death of a newborn.
