Poppy is returning to the Windy City after getting a new job.
There are many things that still feel the same ? restaurants she used to frequent, friends she gets to reconnect with, and, most importantly, her relationship with her best friend Stewy, whom she is now able to see more frequently now that they live in the same state.
But there are lots of new things too: a new job to settle into, new co-workers to navigate, and a new friend in Garner, a friend of Stewy's who is also living in Chicago.
When Poppy and Garner hit it off and quickly become infused into each other's lives, Poppy treads carefully, knowing that Stewy and Garner had a brief romantic fling. But her ability to cautiously toe the line of close friends with her friend's sort-of-ex gets complicated when Garner asks her to be his girlfriend. Fake girlfriend. For the sake of helping each of them get back in the dating saddle and out of their current romantic dry spells.
Knowing that she's playing with fire, Poppy agrees to Garner's terms, hoping that they will be able to get some of their innate flirtatious energy out of their systems and help each other get used to the idea of dating again. But as lines continue to blur for the both of them, they each question whether the person they were hoping to find was right in front of them the whole time. Poppy has to come to terms with what that means for her friendship with Stewy, and what it says about herself that she can't come to terms with the idea of someone caring for her for real.
